Men’s Hoops Set to Host Misericordia in MAC Freedom Title Game

Center Valley, PA (February 23, 2018) – The DeSales University men's basketball team returns to the MAC Freedom championship game for the second straight year hosting Misericordia University in a rematch of last season's title game.
 
The Bulldogs (20-6) advanced to the championship with a 74-69 win over Eastern University on Wednesday, while the Cougars also advanced with a road win, 72-58, over top seeded Wilkes University.
 
Game time is set for 3:00 pm in Billera Hall.  Admission for the event will be $6.00 for adults, $4.00 for senior citizens, and $2.00 for students' w/ID.  All children under the age of six are FREE.  All DeSales students will be admitted FREE of charge with their student ID.

DeSales/Misericordia History:
Saturday's matchup will be the 46th career game between the two teams with DeSales holding a 28-17 lead in the all-time series after the home team won each regular season matchup.  As mentioned earlier it is a rematch of last season's championship game and will be the fifth career meeting in the MAC Freedom postseason with DSU winning three of the first four postseason meetings.  The Bulldogs are 20-5 all-time vs. the Cougars at home.
 
Regular Season Series
Game One at DeSales (DSU – 90-83)
DeSales shot 54.2 percent from the field and saw four players score in double digits in a seven-point home win.  Sophomore Kweku Dawson-Amoah notched a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds, while junior Luke Connaghan had 20 points, senior Connor Jones added 13 points, and sophomore Tracy Simsick finished with 11 points.  Junior Jason Kenny had a monster game with 39 points for the Cougars.
 
Game Two at Misericordia (MU – 59-58)
Game two was a defensive battle as neither shot well with DSU hitting just 28 percent in the second-half and MU shooting just 30 percent for the game.  DeSales had a four-point halftime lead but went scoreless for a seven minute stretch and fell short in the end.  Dawson-Amoah had another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Simsick (11) and senior James Smith (10) also reached double figures.  Kenny led the Cougars yet again with 19 points.
 
DeSales in the MAC Freedom Postseason:
The Bulldogs are making their 16th appearance in the MAC Freedom Tournament and its sixth straight.  DeSales has won three MAC Freedom Championships with the last coming in 2014.  DSU has a 14-12 all-time record in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament.  Today's championship game appearance will be DSU's 11th in 16 career playoff appearances.
