Center Valley, PA (February 8, 2018) - The DeSales University women's basketball team earned its 42nd straight win over Wilkes University Thursday evening with a 89-46 win over the Colonels in Billera Hall to sweep the season series.
Junior
Bridget Walsh (Dunmore, PA) recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds off the bench. Senior
Kaitlin Kelly (Newtown, PA) added 14 points, hitting four 3's, and junior
Leandra Sterner (Northampton, PA) finished with 13 points in the win. Junior
Morgan Birmelin (Honesdale, PA) had nine points, five assists, and six steals for the Bulldogs.
Wilkes (4-18, 0-11 MAC Freedom) got 10 points and eight boards fromÂ
Gianna Roberts in the loss.
The Bulldogs (12-10, 7-4 MAC Freedom) blew this game open in the second quarter using a 22-4 run over the span of 6:24 pushing a seven-point lead into a 25-point margin before settling for a 51-28 lead at the half.
The lead grew to as many as 38 points in the third quarter before peaking at 43, the final margin (89-46).
DeSales forced 30 Colonel turnovers, scoring 41 points off those turnovers and committed just 10 itself in the game. DSU also dominated the glass pulling down 23 offensive boards leading to 30 second-chance points. The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 41.8 percent and held Wilkes to just 29.2 percent shooting.
DeSales is back in action on Saturday when they host King's College in a very important MAC Freedom game set to begin at 1:00 pm.
