Winter Haven, FL (March 8, 2018) - Sophomore
Chase Williams (Berlin, NJ) came around to score after pinch-running in the 11th inning on a throwing error by the Pride shortstop helping the DeSales University baseball team snap a three-game skid with a 6-5 win in 11 innings over Widener on Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (5-6) never trailed in this one as they took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from freshman
Cody Mish (Mohrsville, PA) and an RBI single from junior
Preston Amato (Center Valley, PA).
Widener (5-5) tied the game in the fifth but DSU took back the lead in the bottom half of the inning on a two-RBI single from senior
Conner Lafferty (Langhorne, PA) and an RBI double from freshman
Sean Hanczaryk (Frenchtown, NJ).
Widener got one run back in the eighth inning to make it 5-3 and tied the game in the top of the ninth on two unearned runs.
In the bottom of the 11th, junior
Aaron Fritz (Pottsville, PA) drew a leadoff walk as Williams came on to pinch-run. He advanced to second on a passed ball and on a ground ball to shortstop off the bat of sophomore
Sergio Diaz (Waldwick, NJ), the Pride SS tried to get WIlliams at third base but he threw the ball away allowing Williams to scamper home with the winning run.
Senior
Andrew Schuler (Collegeville, PA) earned a tough luck no decision pitching six strong innings allowing just one earned run, striking out four. Sophomore
PJ Elsner (West Hartford, CT)Â earned the win pitching two scoreless innings, striking out one.
Junior
Charlie Barebo (Emmaus, PA) had three more hits to lead the offense, while Amato and Lafferty each added two hits.
The Bulldogs wrap-up their trip on Friday when they take on PSU-Abington.
