Center Valley, PA (April 14, 2018) - The DeSales University baseball split its home doubleheader with Misericordia University dropping game one, 7-3, before taking game two, 3-2, to take two of three in the weekend series with the Cougars.
Game One (L/3-7)
The Bulldogs fell behind early in this one and were unable to recover. Misericordia got two runs in the first and five more in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead.
DeSales did plate two runs in the sixth inning as freshman
Cody Mish and junior
Aaron Fritz each had RBI singles but DSU left the bases loaded in the fifth. The Bulldogs tacked on another run in the seventh on an RBI double from junior
Preston Amato.
Senior
Andrew Schuler took the loss allowing three earned runs over 1 2/3 innings pitched. Sophomore
John Poccia was outstanding in relief pitching 5 1/3 innings allowing just four hits and striking out three. Mish led the offense with two hits.
Game Two (W/3-2)
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead when freshman
Sean Hanczaryk plated junior
Nick White in the second inning.
That lead stood into the sixth inning when MU scored two runs with two outs to take a 2-1 lead.
DeSales got them right back in the bottom half of the inning as sophomore
Sergio Diaz came thru with a two-RBI double staking DSU to a 3-2 lead and senior
Konner Schneider did the rest pitching a scoreless seventh inning to preserve the win.
Schneider earned the win, his fifth this season, pitching 1 1/3 allowing just one hit and striking out two.
Junior
Charlie Barebo was the lone Bulldog with multiple hits in game two.
DeSales is back in action on Monday when they travel to FDU-Florham for another MAC Freedom game set to begin at 3:30 pm.
