Wilkes-Barre, PA (May 4, 2018) - The DeSales University softball team saw its 2018 season come to an end dropping two games on day one of the MAC Freedom Softball Tournament on Friday afternoon at King's College.
Game One (L/1-3 vs. Misericordia)
DSU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore
Alexa Marasheski hit a sacrifice fly scoring fellow sophomore
Erin Redden who had singled to start the game.
The Cougars got two runs in the top of the second inning to claim the lead and added a third tally in the fourth to take a 3-1 advantage.
The Bulldogs threatened in the fifth putting their first two runners on base and had second and third one out but were unable to get the big hit and stranded a runner on first in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Senior
Hailey Warner suffered the loss 10 hits and one earned run over seven innings, striking out three. Freshman
Ciarrah Holmqvist had two of DSU's five hits in the loss.
Game Two (L/4-5 vs. King's)
DeSales needed a win in game two to advance to day two of the tournament.
King's took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but the Bulldogs got those runs right back tying the game in the bottom half on an RBI single from Marasheski and an RBI triple from Holmqvist.
It remained a tie game into the fourth inning when King's got two runs to take a 4-2 lead.
DSU got those two runs back in the bottom of the sixth inning when freshman
Hallie Muffley hit a two-run home run plating junior
Sunny Greenberg.
The Monarchs however answered the Bulldogs with a solo run in the seventh and DSU stranded runners on first and second with one out to end the game.
Warner took the loss again despite pitching well in relief allowing just one run over four innings. Redden had two hits, Greenberg had two hits off the bench, and Muffley also had two hits to lead the offensive attack.
