Barley's Game-Winner in OT Lifts Field Hockey past Moravian, 1-0

Center Valley, PA (August 31, 2018) - Sophomore Becky Barley scored from just inside the circle beating the GK to her left 5:05 into the first overtime lifting the DeSales University field hockey team past local rival Moravian College, 1-0, in the season opener on Friday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 1, Moravian - 0 (OT)
  • Records: DeSales (1-0); Moravian (0-1)
How it Happened
  • DeSales dominated the flow of play most of the night, out-shooting the Greyhounds, 16-3, for the game and holding a decisive edge in penalty corners, 16-7, but were unable to find a goal in regulation as the game advanced to overtime.
  • In the OT, DeSales had a chance in the first 30 seconds that was kicked away, but after earning a corner just under five minutes into the extra period Barley found the game-winner after multiple shots seconds before nearly also found the back of the cage.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Barley's goal is the second of her career after scoring one last season as a freshman.  Ironically she also had the game-winner in the win over Moravian College last season.
  • Junior Madison Brader earned an assist on the goal.
  • Junior Katarina Polyviou was solid in goal, making two big saves to preserve the shutout and help force the OT period.  It was Polyviou's ninth shutout of her career moving her into sole possession of first place all-time at DeSales.
For the Foes
  • Ashley Kunzman played well in goal for the Greyhounds making nine saves.
