Savite` Earns 1,500th Kills as Volleyball Posts 2-1 Record at Knights Invitational

Glenside, PA (September 29, 2018) - Senior Gabby Savite` inched closer to breaking the all-time kills record at DeSales becoming just the second player in team history with 1,500 kills leading the DeSales University volleyball team to a 2-1 record this weekend at the Knights Invitatational on Friday and Saturday at Arcadia University.

The Basics
  • Final Scores: DeSales - 3, Valley Forge - 0 (25-4, 25-6, 25-4); Arcadia - 3, DeSales - 0 (23-25, 19-25, 22-25); DeSales - 3, Hunter - 2 (25-27, 21-25, 25-19, 26-24, 15-10)
  • Records: DeSales (13-5 overall); Valley Forge (4-14); Arcadia (12-4 overall); Hunter (12-5 overall)
How it Happened
  • In the first match on Friday evening, the Bulldogs completely dominated an overmatched Valley Forge committing just three hitting errors and hitting .583 as a team to earn a three set win allowing just 14 total points to be scored.
  • In the second match on Friday, DSU fell to tournament host Arcadia dropping tight sets in the first set (25-23) and third set (25-22) in the loss.
  • In the third match of the weekend on Saturday, DeSales got down early losing a tight first set (27-25) and second set (25-21) to Hunter College before rallying to win each of the final three sets for a come from behind win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Savite` totaled 44 kills on the weekend giving her 210 on the season and now 1,501 in her career.  She joins DeSales' Hall of Famer, Christa Hannis, as the only two players in team history with 1,500+ kills in career.  She also had doubles-doubles in the loss vs. Arcadia with 18 digs and the win over Hunter with 20 digs.
  • Junior Morghan Shoemaker continued her strong play with 34 kills over the three matches.
  • Sophomore Noel Kelly had 29 kills and recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs in the win over Hunter.
  • Senior Natalie Gray led the defense with 53 digs on the weekend including a match-high 26 vs. Hunter.
  • Freshman Audrey Wolfe totaled 34 assists in the win over Valley Forge and 33 in the loss to Arcadia, while junior Jess Smith finished with 54 assists in the win over Hunter.
  • Junior Cristal Fernandez tallied 18 digs vs. Hunter.

  • The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to FDU-Florham for a key MAC Freedom match-up with the Devils beginning at 7:00 pm.
