Field Hockey Rolls past Muhlenberg, 4-1

Center Valley, PA (September 5, 2018) - The DeSales University field hockey team opened up a 4-0 lead and never looked back in a 4-1 win over local rival Muhlenberg College in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

How it Happened
  • DSU opened up a 3-0 first-half lead as sophomore Erin Chioffe scored twice in the half.
  • The Bulldogs added a fourth goal with about 17 minutes remaining before the Mules got one back with just under four minutes to play spoiling the shutout.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Chioffe scored just her second and third career goal after tallying just one marker as a freshman last season.
  • Sophomore Becky Barley opened the scoring with her second tally of the season at 14:14 and junior Claire Gogel had the fourth goal.
  • Junior Madison Brader, junior Julia DeLuca, and freshman Suzanne Polashock each had assists.
  • Junior Christie Hansen also had an assist on a beautiful play up the right sideline setting up Gogel for the fourth goal.
  • Junior Katarina Polyviou made three more saves in the win.
For the Foes
  • Rachel Richards had MU's goal and Maleah Hess assisted on the play.
  • Kasey Mitchell made the start in goal and had four saves.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales held a slim 8-7 advantage in shots, while the Mules had a 10-8 edge in penalty corners.
  • The win evened the all-time series at two wins each after DSU's also won last season, 1-0.
