Volleyball Falls to Washington & Lee, 3-1

Lexington, VA (September 7, 2018) - The DeSales University volleyball team dropped a four-set match at Washington & Lee University on Friday evening in the first match of the two day tournameny at W&L.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 3, Washington & Lee - 1 (23-25, 15-25, 25-21, 15-25)
  • Records: DeSales (4-2); Washington & Lee (1-4)
How It Happened
  • Tied at 22 in the first set the Bulldogs committed a critical serving error and W&L took the first set, 25-23.
  • In the second set, Washington & Lee dominated play winning 25-15.
  • The Bulldogs rallied and played a strong third set with 18 kills and just six errors to win 25-21.
  • W&L took advantage of nine hitting errors from the Bulldogs in the fourth set to win 25-15.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Senior Gabby Savite` had 14 kills and 21 digs, but hit just .118 for the match.
  • Junior Morghan Shoemaker finished with 13 kills and three blocks, committing just one error and hitting .500 for the match.
  • Sophomore Grace Merritt added nine kills.
  • Freshman Audrey Wolfe finished with 40 assists and senior Natalie Gray had a season-high 28 digs.
For the Foes
  • Meg Guignon finished with 15 kills and hit .283 with 14 digs.
  • Kiera Borthwick had five kills, 21 digs, and five blocks.
  • Elly Cosgrove totaled six service aces and 17 digs.
Inside the Box Score
  • W&L dominated the net totaling 12 team blocks as compared to just three for tbe Bulldogs.
  • DSU had 10 service errors and 10 receiving errors, while W&L committed just four each.
