St. David's, PA (November 6, 2019) - The DeSales University volleyball team saw its 2019 season come to an end with a 3-1 loss at Eastern University in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament semifinals on Wednesday evening.

The Basics

• Final Score: Eastern - 3, DeSales - 1 (11-25, 26-24, 23-25, 18-25)
• Records: DeSales (15-18 overall); Eastern (21-11 overall)

How it Happened

• The Bulldogs struggled out of the gates hitting just .025 in the first set to crawl into a 1-0 deficit.
• In the second set, DSU started strong but fell down 17-13 and was facing a set point at 24-23 before three straight points gave DeSales a 26-24 win to even the match at one.
• The Bulldogs rode that momentum to start the third set taking a 7-2 lead early on three straight service aces from freshman McKenzie Brady.
• The lead was six (17-11) when Eastern won seven straight points to take an 18-17 lead.
• Tied at 22, the Eagles won three of the next four points to take a 2-1 lead, 25-23.
• DeSales led 11-10 midway thru the fourth set when EU used a 10-3 run to take a 20-14 lead and the Bulldogs were unable to recover.

Top Bulldog Performers

• Freshman Caroline Garretson was sensational totaling 12 kills and hitting .579 for the match.
• Freshman Diane Pugay had 13 kills and senior Morghan Shoemaker finished her career with 10 kills and three blocks.
• Freshman Delanie Zohler added eight kills.
• Sophomore Audrey Wolfe finished with 40 assists.
• Senior Cristal Fernandez had 22 digs.

For the Foes

• Caroline Shelby had 19 kills and did not commit an error for a .576 hitting percentage.
• Cecilia Bauer added 21 kills and hit .320.
