Men's Basketball Falls to York in NCAA Tournament First Round, 83-59

Ashland, VA (March 1, 2019) - The DeSales University men's basketball team fell to York College (PA), 83-59, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Men's Tournament on Friday evening at Randolph-Macon College.

How it Happened
  • A tie game at two early, saw the Spartans jump out quickly using a 17-2 run over the next 4:22 to take a 19-4 lead.
  • The advantage swelled to as many as 18 points in the first-half before York took a 42-29 lead into the halftime locker room.
  • Junior Tracy Simsick scored the first bucket of the second-half to cut the margin down to 11 points but a 14-2 York run over the next four minutes pushed the lead to 56-33 and the Spartans never looked back from there.

  • Junior Ben Pratt led DeSales with 16 points off the bench, shooting 7-for-10 from the field.
  • Senior Luke Connaghan was just one rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine boards in his last game as a Bulldog.
  • Sophomore Mike Bealer also reached double digits with 10 points.

  • Joey Polczynski had 22 points to lead all scorers.
