Box Score 2 Selinsgrove, PA (September 20, 2019) - Senior
Morghan Shoemaker recorded her 1,000th kill as the DeSales University volleyball team dropped two hard fought matches on day one of the Susquehanna University Tournament on Friday evening.
Shoemaker becomes just the ninth player in team history to record 1,000 kills as she now has 1,013 after totaling 24 in the two matches on Friday evening.
Match #1 (L/0-3 vs. #25 Heidelberg University - 25-22, 25-15, 25-21)
DSU hit .297 in the opening set falling by just three points but committed 15 hitting errors over the final two sets to drop the three-setter. Shoemaker finished with 10 kills and her 999th, hitting .562 for the match. She added three blocks.
Sophomore
Audrey Wolfe had 28 assists and 13 digs, while seniors
Taylor Aron and
Cristal Fernandez each had 12 digs in the loss.
Match #2 (L/1-3 vs. Mary Washington - 22-25, 25-23, 25-12, 25-23)
The Bulldogs came out strong winning the first set, 25-22, hitting .195 for the set with 14 kills. DSU again played well in the second set but dropped a tight one, 25-23, before falling behind 2-1 after a 25-12 loss in the third set. DeSales rebounded to hit .293 in the fourth set but again dropped a tight one, 25-23, to lose the match.
Shoemaker again led the way recorded her 1,000th kills and leading the Bulldogs with 14 kills and four blocks, hitting .379.
Freshman
Caroline Garretson also played well with 11 kills and a .286 hitting percentage.
Wolfe added 38 assists, three aces, and 10 digs. Fernandez had 22 digs and freshman
Mackenzie Brady and sophomore
Georgia Traynor each had 12 digs.
DeSales is back in action tomorrow with two more matches vs. RIT and Mount Union.
