Men's Soccer Scores Late to Salvage a 3-3 Tie with FDU-Florham

Center Valley, PA (October 9, 2021) - Sophomore Elek McDonald scored with 48 seconds left tying the game at three and leading the DeSales University men's soccer team to a 3-3 tie in double overtime vs. FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 3, FDU-Florham - 3
  • Records: DeSales (5-6-1, 1-1-1 MAC Freedom); FDU-Florham (6-5-2, 0-2-1 MAC Freedom)
  • It is the fourth tie in the series between the two teams and moves the all-time series record to 13-8-4 in favor of DeSales.
How it Happened
  • Five of the six goals were scored in the first-half with FDU taking a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute.
  • DSU tied the game at one when junior Dimeji Oyinkolade scored on an assist from McDonald at 14:19.
  • The Devils reclaimed the lead in the 23rd minute but DeSales once again tied the contest with 4:58 left in the opening half on a goal from sophomore Larry Agyei.
  • Florham took a 3-2 lead into halftime locker room scoring with 42 seconds left.
  • The Bulldogs were down to the final second in this one as neither team was able to find the back of the next over the first 44 minutes of the second-half until McDonald scored unassisted from about 25 yards out to send the game into overtime.
  • Neither team was able to scored the golden goal with DeSales attempting the only three shots of the two overtime periods.

  • Oyinkolade's goal was his team-leading 10th of the year.
  • Agyei netted his fourth and McDonald his third.
  • First-year Jake Hain had an assist on Agyei's goal.
