Bowen Nets Seven; Men's Lacrosse Sets Scoring Record in 25-10 Win over Albright

Center Valley, PA (March 6, 2021) - Senior Zach Bowen scored seven goals and junior Tom Connors added three goals and an assist leading the DeSales University men's lacrosse team to a school-record 25 goals in a 25-10 route of Albright College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

  • DeSales breaks the previous record for goals in a game with 25, two better then the record of 23 accomplished twice.
How it Happened
  • A high scoring game saw a low scoring first quarter as DeSales scored the only two goals of the opening 15 minutes.
  • Albright countered with two goals over the first 46 seconds of the second quarter to tie the game before the Bulldogs scored five of the next six goals to take a 7-3 lead and led 8-4 at the half.
  • The Bulldogs scored four goals to start the third quarter and then finished the quarter with three straight goals to take command with a 15-6 lead after three and then poured it on in the fourth quarter scoring 10 times to post the final tally.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Bowen's seven goals are the second most in a game as he added an assist for eight points tying Connors for most points in the game.
  • Senior Matt Motto added a goal and five assists in the win.
  • Sophomore Zach Broomall and junior Sean Wiser each had three goals, while freshman Luke Wilson contributed two goals and an assist late.
  • Sophomore  Beau Neff scored twice, senior Rob Heaney had two helpers, and senior Vince Maria and junior Kai Taylor each had a goal and an assist.
  • Junior Timmy Smith forced five turnovers, while sophomore Michael Valencia (8) and Maria (6) led the charge in ground balls.
  • Junior Chase Yoder was terrific on the face-off winning 14-of-22 with seven ground balls.
  • Freshman Quinten Lyons had nine saves and allowed just six goals in 48+ minutes of action.
For the Foes
  • Cole Genneken led the Lions with four goals and John Gilbert added three tallies.
  • Liam Ferry made 14 saves in goal.
  • Noah Marchiafava won 16-of-35 face-offs and had seven ground balls.
  • Connor Graser forced four turnovers and had 11 ground balls.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales dominated the stat sheet out-shooting Albright, 53-29, and holding a 53-42 edge in ground balls.
  • Albright was forced into 36 turnovers and was just 12-for-27 in clear attempts.
  • Both teams were 3-for-6 in man-up opportunities.
