Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 28, 2021) - The DeSales University baseball team clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming MAC Freedom postseason with a 7-2 win over King's College on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs finish the regular season at 20-7 overall, 19-7 in the MAC Freedom. DSU is tied in the loss column with Misericordia, who earned the top seed, but fall to the second seed based on win percentage as the Cougars played more games than DeSales despite taking three of four from Misericordia early in the season.
King's took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Wednesday before the Bulldogs got one run back on a solo home run from seniorÂ
Sergio Diaz in the top of the fourth inning.
DSU took the lead for good in the sixth scoring four times taking advantage of three walks. FreshmanÂ
Gavin Zavorski knocked in two with a double and junorÂ
Billy Scanlon had a sacrifice fly.
The Bulldogs tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth inning as freshmanÂ
Liam Kile and sophomoreÂ
Joe Grigas IVÂ each doubled in the inning.
Six different pitches saw action in the win as juniorÂ
Will Manley earned the win pitching two scoreless, striking out three. JuniorÂ
JJ Paul notched his fourth save of the year, pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings.
Grigas came off the bench to go 2-for-3 with two runs scored to lead the offense.
