Bowen Sets Single-Game Goals Record in 21-8 Playoff Win over Delaware Valley

Center Valley, PA (May 1, 2021) - Senior Zach Bowen set a new single-game record with 10 goals leading the DeSales University men's lacrosse team past Delaware Valley University, 21-8, in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.

  • The Bulldogs advance to the MAC Freedom semifinals and will play top seeded Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday with a time TBA.
How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs struggled early as the Aggies erased a 2-1 deficit, taking a 3-2 lead at the 12:32 mark of the second quarter.
  • DeSales dominated from that point on scoring 11 second quarter goals to take a commanding 13-5 advantage into the half.
  • The Bulldogs continued its dominant play into the third quarter scoring all seven goals scored to take a 20-5 lead and cruised home in the fourth quarter.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Bowen broke the old record of eight goals scored in a game and added an assist for 11 points, the second most scored in a game in DSU history.
  • Senior Matt Motto also had a big day with six goals and three helpers for nine points.
  • Freshman Pat Schuett finished with six assists, one shy of tying the single-game record.
  • Also scoring were junior Tom Connors (2g, 1a), sophomore Beau Neff (1g, 1a), junior Kai Taylor (1g), and sophomore Domenic Maria (1g).
  • Senior Nick Bowen and freshman Christian Chiulli each had an assist in the win.
  • Senior Colin Corrado won 13-of-19 face-offs and had eight ground balls.
  • Freshman Quinten Lyons continued his strong play in goal, making 14 saves.
For the Foes
  • Dylan Brasch led the Aggies with three goals and PJ Rafferty had a goal and two assists.
  • Brandon Keller finished with two goals.
  • Jim Murphy made 13 saves in goal.

  • The Bulldogs out-shot the Aggies, 56-50, and had a slim 37-33 advantage in ground balls.
