Baseball Season Ends with 13-8 Loss at Stevens in Game Three of Semifinal Series

Hoboken, NJ (May 10, 2021) - The DeSales University baseball team saw its 2021 season come to an end with a 13-8 loss at Stevens Institute of Technology in game three of the MAC Freedom postseason tournament semifinal series.

The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as the Ducks made an error leading to DSU's second run.

Stevens took control from there hitting a two-run home run in the top of the second inning to tie the game and scored in each of the next five innings.  SIT led 7-2 into the bottom of the fifth when sophomore Thomas Carpenter hit a solo home run to make it 7-3 and DSU got another on an RBI single from senior Hunter Spalt to make it 7-4 thru five innings.

The Ducks just didn't stop scoring however scoring three in the sixth and another in the seventh to claim an 11-4 lead before the Bulldogs got two in the seventh on an RBI double from freshman Colin McCunney and an RBI single from senior Ethan Carmack and two more in the eighth on a two-run home run by senior Sergio Diaz to pull within three at 11-8.

Stevens tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth and the Bulldogs were unable to mount a final rally in the bottom of the ninth.

Freshman Jared Drake took the loss allowing four runs over two innings.  The Bulldogs struggled to find the strike zone on the bump, walking 13 Duck batters.

Eight different players had one hit to lead the offensive attack.  Carpenter, sophomore Colin Trembley, and Diaz each scored twice.
