Women's Basketball Wins 12th Straight 76-52 at Misericordia

Dallas, PA (January 29, 2022) - The DeSales University women's basketball team had four players in double digits en route to its 12th straight win, 76-52, at Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon in MAC Freedom action.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 76, Misericordia - 52
  • Records: DeSales (13-3, 11-0 MAC Freedom); Misericordia (10-9, 5-6 MAC Freedom)
  • It is DeSales' eighth straight win in the series and improves the Bulldogs to 39-12 all-time vs. the Cougars.
  • The Bulldogs have now won 12 straight on the season.
How it Happened
  • The first quarter featured four ties and four lead changes as the Cougars used an 8-0 run late in the quarter to take a five-point lead before a three-point play from junior Maria Newsome with nine seconds left in the opening 10 minutes pulled DeSales within two points (20-18) after one quarter of play.
  • DeSales dominated from that point out-scoring the Cougars, 23-5, in the second quarter to take a 16-point halftime lead holding MU to just 14.3 percent shooting in the second quarter.
  • The third quarter saw DSU extend its lead by one point before the Bulldogs put the game away forcing Misericordia into  21.4 percent shooting fourth quarter to provide the final tally.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Sophomore Amelia Saunders finished with a game-high 16 points off the bench for the Bulldogs.
  • Senior Averi Jordan had 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
  • Sophomore Mikaela Reese recorded her fifth straight double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, adding four steals.
  • Junior Megan Bealer also reached double figures with 14 points, adding seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
  • Sophomore Lindsey Welsh had nine points and seven boards, ane Newsome finished with a game-high seven assists.
For the Foes
  • Elizabeth Fasti and Alyssa Bondi each had a team-high nine points for Misericordia.
  • Skylar Bianchi had eight points and 11 rebounds.
  • Gianna Delfino finished with seven points, 10 rebounds, six assists, three steals, and five blocks.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales finished the game shooting 40.3 percent, while holding the Cougars to just 32.8 percent.
  • The Bulldogs dominated the glass, out-rebounding MU, 50-34, and scoring 40 of its 76 points in the paint.
