Short Handed Bulldogs Torch FDU-Florham, 102-63

Madison, NJ (January 5, 2022) - The DeSales University men's basketball team turned in the second best shooting performance in team history and broke the single-game record for three-point shooting in a 102-63 win over FDU-Florham in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 102, FDU-Florham - 63
  • Records: DeSales (13-1, 5-0 MAC Freedom); FDU-Florham (3-8, 0-4 MAC Freedom)
  • The Bulldogs were forced to travel with just seven players and two starters with 11 players out because of health and safety protocols.
  • The win is DSU's 10th straight over FDU-Florham and improves the Bulldogs to 38-15 all-time vs. the Devils.
How it Happened
  • The first 10 minutes of the game were back and forth as both teams held the lead with DeSales clinging to a one-point margin (25-24) at the 9:21 mark.
  • The Bulldogs then dominated the final nine minutes out-scoring the Devils 29-10 to lead by as many as 21 points and take a commanding 54-34 lead into the halftime locker room.
  • Seniors Matt Kachelries and Timmy Edwards combined to score 32 of DSU's 54, just two points shy of FDU's halftime total as a team.
  • The lead never fell below 20 points in the second-half as DeSales cruised to the win nearly breaking both team shooting records in the process.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Kachelries equaled his career-high with 26 points, shooting 10-for-14 from the field and hitting 5 3's, while also adding eight rebounds and five assists.
  • Edwards tossed in a season-high 21 points and also pulled down eight boards hitting 9-for-12 from the field.
  • Junior Jordan Holmqvist added 17 points, going 4-for-4 from outside the arc, and handing out a career-high six assists.
  • First-year Caleb Gibbs (12 points) and first-year Matt Ciszkowski (11 points) each had season-highs in the win.
For the Foes
  • Oliver Ortman finished with 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists for the Devils.
  • Michael Dabas had 13 points and Aidan Newman finished with 11 points.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales turned in the second best shooting performance in team history converting at a 71.9 percent clip.  The previous record was set during a win over FDU-Florham last season.
  • The Bulldogs broke the single-game record for three-point shooting percentage hitting 10-for-13, 76.9 percent, surpassing the old mark of 69.2 percent, set vs. King's College in 2015.
  • DSU had a 35-14 advantage on the glass and out-scored FDU in the paint, 56-22.
