Tyra Wingle scored two goals but the DeSales University field hockey team fell to #12 York College, 4-2, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Wednesday evening.

- This was DSU's first-ever NCAA Tournament game after winning its first-ever MAC Freedom title on Saturday to earn the automatic bid.
- DeSales finishes the season with a school-record 15 wins and a 15-5 overall record.
- This was the third career meeting between the two teams and the first meeting since 2012 as York improves to 3-0 all-time vs. the Bulldogs.
How it Happened
- York got the scoring started just 2:08 into the game on back-handed shot that just snuck past junior Kayla Yeatman.
- DeSales only needed just over four minutes to the game as Wingle stole a 50/50 ball around midfield creating a 2-on-1 with senior Caroline McGrath as McGrath slotted a pass across the circle to Wingle who scored to tie the game at one.
- It remained tied at one well into the second quarter before the Spartans got two goals in a span of 2:28 to take a 3-1 lead.
- Wingle pulled DeSales within goal just 2:23 before the half tipping home a shot from senior Sarah Peterson off a corner feed and that score stood into the half.
- Neither team was able to score in the third quarter and York got an insurance goal in the 52nd minute to make it 4-2 and the Bulldogs were unable to recover.

- Wingle's goals were her 19th and 20th on the season breaking the single-season record.
- She finishes her career with a school-record 44 goals and is second all-time with 104 career points.
- McGrath and Peterson each earned assists in the loss.
- Yeatman was outstanding in goal all game making 16 total saves, a career-high.
For the Foes
- York got goals from Katie Martino, Maggie Spadafora and two from Connie Harburda in the win.
- Sara Pigue and Brooke Cordisco had assists.
