Men's Basketball Pulls Away in Second-Half in 77-58 Win over Misericordia

Center Valley, PA (December 10, 2022) - The DeSales University men's basketball team held Misericordia University to just 33.3 percent shooting, pulling away in the second-half for a 77-58 win in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 77, Misericordia - 58
  • Records: DeSales (7-2, 4-0 MAC Freedom); Misericordia (5-4, 1-2 MAC Freedom)
  • The win is DSU's seventh straight over the Cougars in the series as the Bulldogs are now 35-19 all-time vs. Misericordia.
  • The Bulldogs stay unbeaten in MAC Freedom play and atop the MAC Freedom standings.
How it Happened
  • Misericordia started this game strong extending an 11-8 lead into a 20-8 lead after a 9-0 run at the 12:31 mark of the first-half.
  • Back-to-back 3's from first-year Nate Ellis and a fast break dunk from junior Elijah Eberly cut it down to a four-point game with just over 10 minutes left in the opening half.
  • The Bulldogs continued to trail by four with 3:33 left before finishing the half on a 10-0 run to take a 35-29 halftime lead.
  • The second-half was all DeSales as a 9-0 extended a four-point lead into a 13-point cushion (46-33) with 13:43 left and the Bulldogs led by double digits the rest of the way to stay unbeaten in conference play.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Eberly had a game-high tying 19 points, hitting 8-for-11 from the field and blocked two shots.
  • Ellis came off the pine to toss in 17 points and added six dimes.
  • Senior Jordan Holmqvist and junior Ryan Boylan also got into double digits with 10 points.
  • Sophomore Caleb Gibbs led all players with 12 boards in the win.
For the Foes
  • Joseph Baldachino had 19 points and Kevin Lazdowsky added 13 points for the Cougars.
  • Nick Hornung also came off the bench to total 11 points.
Inside the Box Score
  • DSU held MU to just 33.3 percent shooting and shot 44.4 percent on its end.
  • The Bulldogs controlled the glass out-rebounding the Cougars, 44-31, and took excellent care of the ball with just eight turnovers.
  • DeSales bench out-scored Misericordia's, 34-14.
