Baseball Season Ends with 3-2 Loss in MAC Freedom Semifinals at Top Seeded Arcadia

Ambler, PA (May 9, 2022) - The DeSales University baseball team saw its season come to an end as top seeded Arcadia University scored one run in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk-off with a 3-2 winner-take-all win in game three of the MAC Freedom Semifinal postseason series on Monday afternoon.

The Bulldogs season ends with a 20-20 overall record as the Knights advance to the MAC Freedom Championship series next weekend vs. Misericordia University.

DSU took a 2-0 lead early scoring once in the third on an RBI groundout from senior Trevor Leamer and once in the fifth on a solo home run from junior Colin Trembley.

Arcadia scored twice in the sixth inning taking an advantage of a throwing error on a stolen base attempt and later scoring on a steal of home plate in which the throw from the pitcher seemed to beat the runner with senior Hunter Spalt blocking the path of the runner to the plate but the umpire said the runner's foot slid under the catcher before the tag was applied tying the game at two.

The game remained tied into the bottom of the ninth inning as DSU left runners in scoring position in the seventh and ninth innings.

In the bottom of the ninth, AU got a leadoff single and sacrificed him to second.  After an intentional walk, a wild pitch, and another intentional walk, the bases were loaded with one out and the Knights got a single up the middle scoring the game-winning run.

Five different pitchers took the hill in the loss with senior Will Manley and junior Tom Berg III tossing 4 2/3 scoreless to start the game.  First-year Matt Gehris gave up two unearned runs and senior JJ Paul pitched two strong frames striking out three.  First-year Mike Romano took the loss allowing the ninth inning run.

Leamer had two hits and an RBI to lead a nine-hit offensive attack.
