Volleyball Drops Tight One at Dickinson, 3-1

Carlisle, PA (September 15, 2022) - The DeSales University volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at Dickinson College on Thursday evening in a match where each set was decided by just two points.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Dickinson - 3, DeSales - 1 (24-26, 25-23, 25-23, 27-25)
  • Records: DeSales (4-5, Overall); Dickinson (3-2 Overall)
  • It was the 11th career meeting between the two teams and just the second win for the Red Devils as DSU is 9-2 all-time vs. Dickinson.
How it Happened
  • The story of this match was comebacks as each team made several to rally wins in each set.
  • Dickinson was in complete control of the first set taking an 11-4 lead early and continued to lead 20-14 before the Bulldogs scored eight of the next 10 points to tie the score at 22 before rallying for the 26-24 win.
  • In the second set DeSales was in control leading 17-11 and 21-15 late before seven straight points from the Red Devils gave them a 22-21 lead before they closed out the set.
  • The Bulldogs turned around an early deficit in the third set into a 21-17 lead late but once again coughed it up as Dickinson scored three straight points and six of seven to take a 23-22 lead before closing it out to take a 2-1 lead.
  • The Red Devils took control of the fourth set mid-way thru, leading 18-11 and 22-17 before the Bulldogs made a furious late comeback and had a set point at 25-24 before DC scored three straight to close out the match.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • First-year Madison Swift had another strong effort with 10 kills and hit .217.
  • Fellow first-year Abby Weise added 12 kills and totaled 18 digs.
  • Sophomore Paige Lewis finished with five kills and three blocks.
  • First-year Peyton Porterfield led the setters with 23 assists and senior McKenzie Brady had 16 digs.
For the Foes
  • Emma Popham had nine kills and hit .421, adding five blocks.
  • Ann Marie Patterson finished with 18 digs.
  • Emma Lange finished with 10 kills and 12 digs.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Bulldogs hurt themselves once again on the serve giving up 13 errors on the serve.
  • DSU did have 16 service aces.
  • DeSales hit just .073 for the match and gave up 11 aces.

  • DeSales gets the weekend off and will return to action next week when they host FDU-Florham in a MAC Freedom match on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 pm.
