Rochester, NY (September 30, 2022) - The DeSales University volleyball team opened up the RIT Tournament this weekend with a 3-0 win over Morrisville on Friday evening.

The Basics

• Final Score: DeSales - 3, Morrisville - 0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22)
• Records: DeSales (9-7 overall); Morrisville (10-5 overall)
• Tonight's match was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

How it Happened

• The first set featured seven ties and two lead changes as Morrisville led almost the entire way until DSU rallied from down 20-17 to win eight straight points to take set #1.
• A tight set early saw the Bulldogs win four straight points to take a 7-5 lead and never trailed the rest of the way in a 25-21 second set win.
• The third set was another back-and-forth affair featuring seven ties and five lead changes.
• DeSales led 22-19 before Morrisville got three straight points to get within one (23-22) before a Morrisville error and kill by first-year Abby Weise closed out the match for the Bulldogs.

Top Bulldog Performers

• First-year Abby Weise led DeSales with 11 kills and added two aces and eight digs.
• Sophomore Mykenah Calder had nine kills.
• Sophomore Samantha Worontzoff had seven kills, hitting .429, and added five blocks.
• Junior Grace Grandinetti and first-year Peyton Porterfield each had 13 assists and Grandinetti totaled a team-high 18 digs.
• Senior McKenzie Brady finished with 15 digs and two aces.

For the Foes

• Emily Huppee had 13 kills and Brianna Gates finished with 10 kills.

Inside the Box Score

• The Bulldogs hit .229 for the match as compared to just .140 for Morrisville.
• DSU had nine team blocks and nine service aces.
