Women's Soccer Falls to #5 Messiah, 7-1

Center Valley, PA (October 3, 2023) - The DeSales University women's soccer team saw its two-game winning streak come to an end falling to #5 Messiah University, 7-1, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Messiah - 7, DeSales - 1
  • Records: DeSales (2-8-1 Overall); Messiah (8-2 Overall)
  • This was the third career meeting between the two teams with Messiah winning all three. 
How it Happened
  • The Bulldogs took the lead in this one scoring on a PK just 16 seconds into the game when junior Emma Ribeiro drew a penalty in the box and senior Tess Rodgers scored on the PK.
  • Messiah tied the game in the sixth minute and took the lead for good in the 19th minute.
  • The Falcons added two more goals in the 32nd and 39th minute to take a 4-1 halftime lead.
  • Messiah added three more goals in the second-half to provide the final tally.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Rodgers PK was her first goal of the season.
  • Senior Jozlyn Minnema made seven in goal and junior Katey Kunz had four saves in 36+ minutes.
For the Foes
  • Brittany Laird scored three goals to lead Messiah.
  • Kierstyn Fogle, Lydia Ring, Kristina Akselsen, and Kaitlyn Laird also each scored.
