Annville, PA (July 6, 2023) - Six DeSales University student-athletes were honored on Thursday afternoon being named to the Spring Academic All-MAC Team in their respective sports as announced by the conference office and as voted on by the Sports Information Directors in the MAC Freedom and MAC Commonwealth.
The Academic All-MAC teams recognize the top student-athletes both in the classroom and in athletic competition during the 2023 spring semester. The team consists of 10 student-athletes from both the MAC Freedom and MAC Commonwealth teams voted on and selected by the Sports Information Directors of the MAC schools highlighting each student-athletes academic and athletic credentials. To be eligible you must have a 3.2 GPA for the 2023 semester of your championship season.
The six student-athletes earning the honor this season were: graduate studentÂ
Billy Scanlon (baseball), seniorÂ
Kylie Bryant (softball), juniorÂ
Augie Citrone (men's tennis), seniorÂ
Carl Tyce (men's outdoor track & field), seniorÂ
Isabelle Meckes (women's outdoor track & field), and seniorÂ
Amelia Smith (women's outdoor track & field).
Scanlon, a computer science major, earned All-MAC First-Team honors for the third time in his career this season batting .470 with 22 RBIs and three home runs. Scanlon also had a team-high .628 on-base percentage which sets a new single-season record.
Bryant, a biology major, had a record breaking season for the Bulldogs tying for first all-time with a .487 batting average, knocking in 38 runs which ties for second most in a single season, totaling 57 hits, seventh most in a season. She added six home runs and 10 doubles and finished the year with seventh best on-base percentage in a season (.512) and fifth best slugging percentage (.726). She was named the MAC Freedom Player of the Year and to the First-Team as well as the ECAC Player of the Year and ECAC First-Team. Bryant was also named NFCA All-Region.
CItrone, a supply chain management major, was named to the All-MAC Freedom First-Team finishing the year with an 8-8 record at the #1 singles position and teamed with junior
Philip Ritchie to post a 12-5 mark at the No. 1 doubles position.
Tyce, a biology major, earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the 800-meters during the outdoor T&F season. He was part of the 4x800 relay team that placed second and the 4x400 relay team that finished fifth at the MAC Outdoor Championships, while also placing fifth in the 800-meters individually.
Smith, a criminal justice major, earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors twice in the 1,500-meters and the 5K in outdoor track & field. She was named the LVAIAW Most Outstanding T&F athlete. Smith placed third in the 1,500-meters and fourth in the 5K at the MAC Outdoor Championships and was a part of the 4x800 relay that finished sixth.
Meckes, an accounting major, earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the discus and later earned All-American honors placing sixth in the discus at the NCAA Outdoor T&F National Championships. She took home MAC Gold in the discus and was seventh in the hammer throw at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
