Field Hockey Falls to Hartwick College, 5-2

Oneonta, NY (September 16, 2023) - The DeSales University field hockey team dropped its fourth straight game falling to Hartwick College, 5-2, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Hartwick - 5, DeSales - 2
  • Records: DeSales (1-4 overall), Hartwick (3-1 overall)
  • This was the first career meeting between DeSales and Hartwick.
How it Happened
  • Hartwick scored first in this one with a goal from Julie Ruzzi at 20:27, as the lead stood at 1-0 after an evenly matched first-half.
  • The Hawks added a quick goal out of the break at 33:33 to take a 2-0 lead, before the Bulldogs answered just eight seconds later with a goal off the stick of senior Maddie Trocki.
  • Hartwick pushed the lead back to two at 36:42, when Ruzzi scored again for the Hawks.
  • Senior Catie McGrath responded for the Bulldogs scoring with 4:54 left in the third period to get the Bulldogs within one heading into the fourth.
  • Hartwick had the answer however, adding two goals and holding the Bulldogs scoreless in the fourth period.

  • Trocki scored her team leading fifth goal of the year.
  • McGrath scored her first goal of the season.
  • Junior Delani Remp had an assist on McGrath's tally.
  • Senior Kayla Yeatman made six saves in goal for the Bulldogs.
For the Foes
  • Julie Ruzzi had a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Hawks.
  • Caroline Aspuru and Danielle Hand scored the other two goals. 
  • Ashley Luppens made seven saves in goal.

  • Hartwick out-shot DeSales,14-11, while the Bulldogs had a 9-5 advantage in penalty corners.
