Volleyball Splits Two Matches on Day Two of Home Invitational

Center Valley, PA (September 2, 2023) - The DeSales University volleyball team earned a split of its two matches on Saturday at its home Invitational with a five set win over Rutgers-Camden before falling to Dickinson College in the last match of the weekend.

Match #1 (W/3-2 vs. Rutgers-Camden - 25-16, 25-22, 17-25, 10-25, 15-10)
DSU took a 2-0 lead in the opening match before the Scarlet Raptors rallied to even the match at two with wins in sets three and four.  The Bulldogs trailed, 4-3, to start the fifth set before scoring five straight points, thanks in part to senior Paige Lewis who had two kills during the rally.  Rutgers-Camden got within two points (8-6) before DSU scored four straight to take a 12-6 lead, including two more kills from Lewis, and never looked back from there.

Lewis finished with 15 kills, hitting .464 with three blocks in the win.  Fellow senior Delanie Zohler added 10 kills and 16 digs and junior Mykenah Calder had eight kills and 17 digs.

Senior Alyson Maddalone finished with 19 digs and four aces, while senior Grace Grandinetti totaled 19 assists and sophomore Peyton Porterfield handed out 16 helpers.  Junior Samantha Worontzoff finished with five blocks and senior Liz Hessberger totaled 13 digs and three blocks.

Match #2 (L/0-3 vs. Dickinson - 20-25, 19-25, 19-25)
DSU got into a hole in each set vs. the Red Devils and were unable to recover to split on day two.

Lewis again led the charge with seven kills and three blocks.  First-year Regan Moeykens played well with five kills and four blocks and Calder finished with nine digs and two aces.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they host Franklin & Marshall in a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
