Washington, DC (September 23, 2023) - The DeSales University volleyball split two matches on day two of the Worthington Classic on Saturday at Gallaudet University to take home third place in the eight-team tournament over the last two days.
Match #1 (L/1-3 vs. Gallaudet University)
DSU took the first set rallying from down 15-11 to score five straight points, taking a 16-15 lead on two kills each from seniorÂ
Mykenah Calder and juniorÂ
Samantha Worontzoff. Leading 23-22, DSU scored the next two points to take the first set, 25-22, on a block assist from Worontzoff and sophomoreÂ
Peyton Porterfield.
After hitting .211 in that first set the Bulldogs struggled over the final three sets hitting -.026, .133, and -.122 to fall 3-1 to the hosts.
Worontzoff led the way with nine kills and two blocks, hitting .250. SeniorÂ
Emma Notarfrancesco had 20 digs.

Delanie Zohler finished with seven kills and 17 digs and Calder added six kills and 15 digs.
Match #2 (W/3-1 vs. Catholic)
Down 24-21 in the first the Bulldogs rallied to the score at 24 but Catholic scored the final two points to take the first set.
In the second set, DSU trailed 18-16 before scoring eight straight points to take a 23-18 lead on four aces from Calder and kills from Zohler, Worontzoff, and two kills from first-yearÂ
Mackenzie Fox before evening the scored at one set each with a 25-21 lead.
In the third and fourth sets the Bulldogs led almost the entire way earning a 25-22 win in the third set hitting .500 in the set and winning 25-13 in the fourth set hitting .324 to close out the match.
Zohler led the way with 14 kills and added 10 digs. SeniorÂ
Paige Lewis had 12 kills and no errors, hitting .500 and added three blocks. Worontzoff earned All-Tournament honors and finished with seven kills and six blocks.
Calder totaled 11 kills, 16 digs, and four aces and Fox had 10 kills. SeniorÂ
Grace Grandinetti had 28 assists and 15 digs and Porterfield finished with 21 assists and three blocks. Notarfrancesco led the defense with 22 digs.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday when they host Arcadia University in MAC Freedom action in Billera Hall beginning at 7:00 pm.
