Mazza Scores Twice Leading Men's Soccer Past FDU-Florham, 3-2

Madison, NJ (October 23, 2024) - First-year JohnPaul Mazza scored the first two goals of his career leading the DeSales University men's soccer team past FDU-Florham, 3-2, in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening.

  • DSU's 10th win marks the first time since the 2017 season the Bulldogs have won 10 games and just the second time since 2011.
  • DeSales earns its first win over the Devils since the 2019 season and improve to 14-9-5 all-time vs. FDU-Florham.
  •  The Bulldogs sit in fourth place in the MAC Freedom standings with three games left in the conference schedule.
How it Happened
  • DSU had a 1-0 lead at the half after senior Sean Bruce scored in the 10th minute off an assist from junior Liam MacDonald.
  • Mazza scored back-to-back goals in the 73rd and 76th minute to push the Bulldogs ahead by three goals.
  • The Devils didn't quit scoring once in the 77th minute and again in the 82nd minute to get FDU within a goal but were never able to find the tying marker.

  • Bruce's goal was his second of the season.
  • Mazza recorded the first two goals of his career.
  • MacDonald earned assists on both Bruce's goal and Mazza's second goal.
  • First-year Jimmy Shensky had eight saves in goal.
