Chester, PA (December 4, 2024) - A last second fallaway from senior
Caleb Gibbs was long as the DeSales University men's basketball team fell to Widener University, 66-64, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.
The Basics
- Final Score: Widener - 66, DeSales - 64
- Records: DeSales (5-2 Overall); Widener (2-4 Overall)
- This was the 11th career meeting between the two teams with the Pride taking a 6-5 lead in the all-time series.
How it Happened
- DSU trailed by three seven minutes into the game (17-14) before a 13-0 run gave the Bulldogs a 27-17 lead at the 8:04 mark.
- The lead grew to 11 points with 5:27 left and was nine with 3:13 to go in the first-half before the Pride finished the half on an 11-2 run to tie the score at 35.
- DeSales opened the second-half with an 11-4 spurt to take a 46-39 lead 4:30 into the half.
- It was a six-point game after a three from junior Brendan Boyle at the 13:57 mark before Widener answered with a 12-3 spurt to take a 55-52 lead at the 10:28 mark.
- DSU trailed by one with 3:13 left when senior Matt Ciszkowski scored on a backdoor cut off an offensive rebound to give the Bulldogs a 64-63 lead with 2:39 to go.
- After both teams had multiple empty possessions, Widener got a bucket deep in the lane to take a 65-64 advantage with 1:09 left.
- Ciszkowski had a good look on a drive into the lane with 45 seconds left that came up short.
- The Bulldogs got a stop on the next possession but the Pride grabbed a loose ball offensive rebound and DeSales was forced to foul as the Pride 1-of-2 to take a two-point advantage with 18 seconds left.
- Out of multiple timeouts, DeSales was called for a traveling violation in the lane and was again forced to foul.
- This time Widener missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and DSU called timeout with 3.9 seconds left.
- A long pass to senior Caleb Gibbs saw him got off a decent look falling away at the foul line but the shot was long as time expired.

- Boyle had his best game in a Bulldog uniform totaling a game-high tying 18 points, hitting 5 3's.
- First-year Jayden Thomas added 14 points and handed out five assists.
- Ciszkowski was also in double digits with 13 points.
For the Foes
- Myles Bright led the Pride with 18 points.
- Kori Segich added 14 points.
- Kevin Schenk finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.
Inside the Box Score
- The Bulldogs shot just 39.3 percent from the field and was 10-for-28 (35.7 percent) from outside the arc.
- Widener hit 45.8 percent from the field for the game.
