Baseball Wins Two Defeating Neumann and PSU-Abington

Fayatteville, NC (February 24, 2024) - The DeSales University baseball team won two more games on Saturday taking down Neumann University (5-4) in game one and PSU-Abington (17-3) in game two at Methodist University.

Game One (W/5-4 vs. Neumann)
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when junior Owen Fischl knocked in sophomore JT Anderosky and junior Patrick Kusters stole home.  DSU added solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings but Neuman tied the game at four and the game remained tied in the bottom of the seventh when senior Travis Kerr singled home Kusters to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 lead that stood for the rest of the game.

Junior Ashton Johnson earned the win pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings allowing just one hit and striking out two.

Kusters was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and Kerr knocked in two runs.

Game Two (W/17-3 vs. PSU-Abington)
Trailing 1-0, DSU scored three times in the third, including a two-run single by Fischl and added six more runs in the fourth to take a 9-1 lead.  Kerr had a two-RBI single, senior Gavin Zavorski had an RBI single, and first-year Jack Sague had a two-RBI triple as part of the six-run fourth.

After trading two runs each in the sixth and seventh innings, DeSales broke it open with six more runs in the top of the ninth to post the final score.

Anderosky finished 2-for-6 with two runs scored and three RBIs, Fischl was 30for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs, Kerr was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Sague had two hits and five RBIs.  First-year Justin Stranix totaled two hits and two runs scored.

Sophomore Mike Hooker earned the win pitching 5 2/3 strong allowing one run and striking out six.

DSU is back at it tomorrow when they take on weekend host, Methodist University, with first pitch set for 2:30 pm.
