Men's Basketball Season Ends with 77-51 Loss to Williams in NCAA First Round

Oswego, NY (March 1, 2024) - The #18 DeSales University men's basketball team saw its 2024 season come to an end after a 77-51 loss to Williams College in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at Oswego State on Friday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Williams - 77, #18 DeSales - 51
  • Records: #18 DeSales (24-4 overall); Williams (22-6 overall)
  • This was the first-ever meeting between DeSales and Williams.
  • DSU finishes the year with 24 wins, tied for the second most in team history.
How it Happened
  • DSU started strong, leading 7-5 after a three-pointer from senior Ryan Boylan 3:31 into the game.
  • The Bulldogs then went scoreless over the next 6:34, but only trailed by one after a three-pointer from senior Jordan Holmqvist ended the drought at the 9:55 mark.
  • Williams followed Holmqvist's 3 with two of its own and finished the half on a 7-2 run as DeSales trailed by nine (30-21) entering the halftime locker room.
  • The Ephs put the game away early in the second-half opening the half on a 20-0 run to take a 50-21 lead at the 14:05 mark as the Bulldogs were unable to recover.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Junior Devin Atkinson led all scorers with a game-high 15 points off the bench.
  • Junior Caleb Gibbs added 10 points and seven rebounds.
  • Senior Will Bowen also reached double figures with 10 points.
For the Foes
  • Cole Prowitt-Smith had 14 points and nine boards.
  • Alex Lee and Alex Stoddard each had 13 points.
  • Nate Karren finished with 11 points and four blocks.
