Hooker Leads DH Sweep at Lebanon Valley; Bulldogs Take 2-of-3 in Weekend Series

Annville, PA (March 24, 2024) - Sophomore Mike Hooker tossed a four-hit complete-game shutout in game two helping the DeSales University baseball team sweep Lebanon Valley College in a MAC Freedom doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

Game One (W/13-9 - 8 Innings)
DSU took a 4-0 lead with three runs in the second inning and one in the third thanks to RBI hits from junior Justin DeStaso, sophomore John Rorick, and senior Travis Kerr.

LVC got three runs back in the bottom of the third inning but the Bulldogs scored three more in the fourth thanks in part to RBI hits from DeStaso and junior Owen Fischl and two more in the fifth on a two-RBI double from DeStaso to take a 9-4 lead.

The Flying Dutchmen tied the game with three in the fifth and two more in the sixth and neither team scored in the seventh sending the game into extra innings.

In the eighth, the Bulldogs scored four times on two walks, three hit batters, and two singles to take a 13-9 lead and junior Ashton Johnson earned the save with a scoreless eighth.

Sophomore Zach Rothermel got the win in relief.  DeStaso finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs, Fischl had two hits, Rorick was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, and senior. Gavin Zavorski had two hits and two runs scored.

Game Two (W/9-0)
Hooker was dominant in game two allowing just two runners to reach second base and pitching three perfect innings.  He struck out four to improve to 3-0 on the season.

It was a 2-0 game into the fifth inning when the Bulldogs exploded for six runs to put the game out of reach.

DeStaso, senior Zachary Zuchowski, Kerr, and first-year Ty Akins all had two hits.  Junior Patrick Kusters had two RBIs.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Montclair State University for a non-conference game beginning at 3:00 pm.
