Swarthmore, PA (September 1, 2024) - The DeSales University women's soccer team was shutout, 5-0, to Swarthmore College in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.

The Basics

• Final Score: Swarthmore - 5, DeSales - 0
• Records: DeSales (0-2 overall); Swarthmore (1-0-1 overall)
• This marked the first all-time meeting between the two teams. 

How it Happened

• Swarthmore took control early scoring in the 8th minute off the foot of Ava Gizzie.
• The Garnets got an insurance goal with 23 seconds remaining in the first half on a goal from Anwen Reed, to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
• The second half was all Swarthmore as well adding three goals in a span of five minutes with one in the 50th, 51st, and 55th minute to provide the final tally. 

Top Bulldog Performers

• First-year students Saige Santa Cruz and Sophia Hallal both saw action in goal for the Bulldogs.
• Santa Cruz made seven saves and Hallal made five saves. 

For the Foes

• Gizzie led Swarthmore with two goals.
• Charlotte Carleton had one goal and an assist.
• Kanellakos and Reed each scored a goal.
• Maze and Lewinski each tallied assists in the win. 
• Sofie Aird made three saves.

• Swarthmore had a 32-9 advantage in shots and a 17-3 edge in shots on goal.
