Big Fourth Quarter Leads Women's Basketball Past Arcadia, 68-61, in MAC Freedom Opener

Glenside, PA (January 8, 2025) - Senior Morgan Sterner scored a team-high 19 points leading the DeSales University women's basketball team past Arcadia University in the MAC Freedom season opener on Wednesday evening, 68-61.

The Basics
  • Final Score: DeSales - 68, Arcadia - 61
  • Records: DeSales (8-4, 1-0 MAC Freedom); Arcadia (6-6, 0-1 MAC Freedom)
  • This is the 13th straight win for the Bulldogs over the Knights as DSU improves to 28-1 all-time vs. Arcadia.
  • The Bulldogs have now won 27 straight games against MAC Freedom competition.
  • This was a rematch of last season's MAC Freedom title game.
How it Happened
  • Arcadia was out quickly taking a 13-4 lead early and led by six points (17-11) after one quarter of play.
  • DeSales used a 10-2 run to start the second quarter claiming a 21-19 lead thanks in part to 3's from sophomore Lillirose Lang, first-year Kayla Ishikami, and junior Mikaili Donmoyer during the run.
  • The lead grew to five points on a three from first-year Alexis Berger with 4:11 left before both teams went cold from the field and AU scored the only four points the rest of the half as DeSales clung to a 28-27 lead.
  • DSU led by five again early in the third quarter before six straight points from AU gave the hosts a 32-31 lead.
  • It went back-and-forth for the rest of the quarter until a three at the end of the quarter gave Arcadia a 46-43 lead.
  • A three-point play to start the fourth quarter pushed the Knights lead up to six points on the first possession of the fourth quarter.
  • The Bulldogs cut the margin down to one point several times and trailed 55-54 with 4:46 to go.
  • A 10-2 run including five points from both Sterner and Donmoyer gave DSU a 64-57 lead with 2:47 left.
  • After each team had empty possessions, Arcadia scored four straight points to get within three (64-61).
  • DeSales missed two straight shots but got back-to-back offensive rebounds and Ishigami found Sterner all alone under the basket for a lay-up with 20 seconds left and after a stop Sterner iced the win from the line.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Sterner finshed with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
  • Donmoyer also reached double digits with 15 points, adding four steals.
  • Ishigami played well off the bench with nine points and three assists.
For the Foes
  • Hanna Rhoades led the Knights with 21 points.
  • Delaney Bell added 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three steals, and three blocks.
  • Scarlett Glasser-Nehls totaled 12 points.
Inside the Box Score
  • DeSales finished the game shooting 42.2 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from outside the arc.
  • The Bulldogs won the board battle, 38-30, and had a 20-8 edge in points off turnovers.
