Women's Basketball Falls to #2 Scranton

Center Valley, PA (December 16, 2025) - The DeSales University women's basketball team fell to #2 the University of Scranton, 74-48, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening in Billera Hall.

The Basics
  • Final Score: Scranton - 74, DeSales - 48
  • Records: DeSales (4-4 Overall); Scranton (10-0 Overall)
  • Scranton wins for the seventh straight time in the series and improves to 34-8 overall between the two teams.
How it Happened
  • DeSales got off to a good start in this one opening up a 9-6 lead on back-to-back buckets from senior Lindsay Bednarek and sophomore Marissa LaVerghetta.
  • Scranton responded finishing the first quarter on an 8-0 run to lead 14-9 after 10 minutes of play.
  • It was a three-point game mid-way thru the second quarter before the Lady Royals used a 10-0 run to lead 31-18 and pushed that advantage up to 16 points (38-22) at the halftime break.
  • The third quarter was about even with Scranton out-scoring DeSales by two points before the Lady Royals pulled away in the fourth to earn the win.
Top Bulldog Performers
  • Bednarek led DeSales with 15 points, adding three steals.
  • Sophomore Aubrey Pollard had nine points and senior Sammi White played well with four points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.
  • Sophomore Kayla Ishigami had five assists off the bench.
For the Foes
  • Meghan Lamanna and Elizabeth Bennett each had 17 points to lead the Lady Royals.
  • Katie Gorski recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Kaeli Romanowski added 10 points and five assists.
Inside the Box Score
  • Scranton shot 47.8 percent from the field, while the Bulldogs hit just 38.2 percent.
  • Scranton's bench out-scored DeSales' 28-9.
