Field Hockey Squanders Two Goal Lead in 4-3 Loss in OT to Muhlenberg

Center Valley, PA (September 6, 2025) - The DeSales University field hockey squandered a two goal halftime lead falling to local rival Muhlenberg College, 4-3, in overtime on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

  • Records: DeSales (1-2 overall), Muhlenberg (2-1 overall)
  • This was the first meeting between the two since the 2022 season.
  • The Mules snap a two-game losing streak in the series and even the all-time series to 4-4 with the win.
How it Happened
  • DSU got on the board 10:08 into the game as sophomore Abigail Antipas scored on a penalty stroke.
  • DeSales took a 2-0 lead 7:04 into the second quarter when sophomore Stephanie Pallante scored off an assist from senior Brynn Balliet.
  • That score stood into the half as the Bulldogs didn't even allow a shot to the Mules in the second quarter.
  • It remained a two-goal lead seven minutes into the third quarter when MC scored twice in the span of 36 seconds to tie game.
  • DeSales regained the lead just 15 seconds later when junior Megan McLain scored off a feed from senior Brooke Sodl.
  • Muhlenberg tied the game for a second time with 4:08 left in the third quarter and neither team scored in the fourth quarter as the game headed to overtime.
  • DeSales nearly won the game seconds into overtime as Antipas had a point blank shot saved by the Mule keeper.
  • DSU controlled play for most of the OT period before Muhlenberg earned a penalty corner five minutes into the extra session, scoring on a shot over the GK's head.
