Fourth Quarter Rally Leads Women's Basketball to 62-59 Win at King's

Wilkes-Barre, PA (January 28, 2026) - The DeSales University women's basketball team erased a nine-point fourth quarter deficit to earn a 62-59 road win at King's College in MAC Freedom action on Wednesday evening.

  • The Bulldogs improve to 52-29 all-time vs. the Monarchs with the win as the finish up the first-half of the MAC Freedom schedule.
How it Happened
  • The first quarter was back-and-forth featuring one tie and four lead changes as the two teams settled into a tie at 14 after the first 10 minutes.
  • A 7-0 run early in the second quarter gave the Bulldogs a 21-16 lead on a three-point play from sophomore Marissa LaVerghetta.
  • The lead grew to as many as seven points before King's tied it at 27 late in the first-half.
  • Buckets from sophomore Aubrey Pollard and senior Lindsay Bednarek to end the half gave DSU a four-point cushion at the break.
  • King's got hot in the third quarter hitting four 3's and using an 11-2 run to take a 47-39 lead late in the quarter.
  • DeSales cut that margin down to three but trailed by six (50-44) after three quarters of play.
  • A three from the Monarchs to start the fourth quarter gave the hosts a nine-point lead, their largest of the game.
  • The Bulldogs answered with eight straight points, four each from LaVerghetta and Pollard, to get within one (53-52) with 6:04 to go.
  • It remained a one-point game with 2:02 left when DSU forced a turnover and Pollard drove the lane for a bucket to put DSU up one with 1:09 remaining.
  • DeSales got another stop and senior Sammi White came up big with a jumper at the top of the key to put the Bulldogs up three with 37 ticks left and King's was unable to find the tying bucket late.

  • Bednarek led all scorers with 27 points.
  • Pollard added 12 tallies and LaVerghetta had nine points.
For the Foes
  • Cadie Lewis and Gianna Dickson each had 15 points to lead King's.
  • Lauren Casey finished with eight points and 13 boards.
