Alexis Hoyer hit a team-high .474 leading the DeSales University volleyball team past Lebanon Valley College, 3-0, in an important MAC Freedom matchup on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.
The Bulldogs improve to 14-4 overall, winning their third straight match, and are now 3-1 in the MAC Freedom.
DSU got out early in the opening set, leading 4-0, before LVC rallied to take a 12-9 lead. Trailing 15-13, the Bulldogs scored nine of the next 10 points to lead 22-16 and never looked back in the opening set. Tied at 10 in the second set, DeSales scored six of the next seven points to lead 16-11. LVC fought back to get within one (17-16), but DSU scored three straight to lead 21-17 and held on late to take a 2-0 lead.
The third set was remarkable in that there was 20 ties and 10 lead changes in the third set alone. The largest lead in the set was two points, twice by the Bulldogs and once by the Flying Dutchmen early in the set. DeSales regained a two-point lead (24-22) before the Flying Dutchmen rallied with three straight to take a 25-24 lead.
Junior
Allison Reimer came thru with a kill after a long rally to tie the score at 25, Hoyer had a kill on the next service to give DSU a 26-25 lead and the Bulldogs won the match on an LVC hitting error.
Hoyer finished with a team-high 10 kills, hitting .474. Reimer added nine kills and added 15 digs. Sophomore
Samantha Buff finished with six kills, hitting .308, and senior
Jocelyn Castro had four kills and three blocks.
Junior
Kylie Campbell had 14 digs, senior
Bryanna Purisima finished with 15 assists, and junior
Ashlyn Dinan added 10 assists. Purisima and Dinan each had six digs.
DSU is off this weekend and back in action next Tuesday traveling to Stevens for another MAC Freedom match beginning at 7:00 pm.
