Softball Splits Non-Conference DH at Neumann

Aston, PA (March 31, 2026) - The DeSales University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Neumann University on Tuesday afternoon winning game one (4-1) before dropping game two (6-5).

Game One (W/4-1)
DeSales took the lead in the third inning of a scoreless game with two runs on RBI singles from sophomore Gianna Angermeier and senior Shana Gugliandolo.  First year Mary Kovaleski added an RBI single in the fourth to make it 3-0 and the Bulldogs tacked on another run in the fifth on an error by the Knights.

First-year Brianna Bauscher did the rest, tossing her second complete-game of the season allowing one unearned run over seven innings, striking out two.

Six different Bulldogs had a hit in the game one win.

Game Two (L/5-6 - 8 innings)
DSU once again started quickly scoring a run in the first and two more in the second to lead 3-0. Junior Abigayle Freideman had an RBI single in the first inning and Angermeier tripled home two runs in the third.

Neumann got two runs back in the third inning but the Bulldogs took a commanding 5-2 lead with two runs in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single from junior Paige Hromin and RBI double from sophomore Arabella Heintzelman.

The Knights rallied to tie game in the bottom of the inning scoring the tying run on a Bulldog error as the game shifted to extra innings.

In the eighth, the Bulldogs were unable to get the runner starting on second base home and Neumann was able to sacrifice the runner to third and scored her two batters later on a single thru the right side.

Freideman had three hits, while junior Kiara Castera, Hromin, Heintzelman, and sophomore Kylie Llewellyn all had two hits in game two.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they host Arcadia University in a MAC Freedom doubleheader beginning at Noon.
