Johnston joins Coach Richter’s staff in her first season as a graduate assistant coach. Johnston is a 2019 graduate of Emory & Henry College located in Southwest Virginia earning a bachelor of arts in Sport Management.
A native of High Point, NC, Johnston was a four-year member of the Emory & Henry Women’s basketball team. She was named to the ODAC Sportsmanship Team and All-Academic First Team her Junior season. In her four years at E&H her class compiled an overall record of 83-27 making them the winningest class in the history of the program. They also led the school to its first ever NCAA tournament berth, reaching the second round.
She was selected in 2019 for the “So You Want To Be A Coach” program by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) held at the Final Four convention in Tampa, FL. The “So” program is designed to increase the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women’s basketball, increase the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduce female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raise awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women’s basketball.
While at E&H Johnston also volunteered as a Strength & Conditioning intern her senior year and worked as a student assistant in the Athletics Department for two years. Concluding her senior year she was recognized as the ‘Most Outstanding Senior in the Health & Human Performance Department’, voted on by professors and staff members within the department.
She will be pursuing her Masters of Education in Academic Leadership and Reform.
