Win Streak Halted at Two; Bulldogs Fall to Aggies, 2-0

Doylestown, PA (October 9, 2008) – The DeSales University field hockey team carried a two-game winning streak and were looking to carry that momentum into a Freedom Conference game at Delaware Valley College on Saturday but came up short falling to the Aggies, 2-0, on a beautiful afternoon.

The loss puts the Bulldogs in a tough spot heading into the last few weeks of the season as they are now 6-8 overall, but 0-3 in the Freedom Conference. Delaware Valley improves to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in the Freedom. The Aggies controlled most of the game out-shooting DeSales, 29-9 and holding an 11-6 edge in penalty corners.

DVC took a 1-0 lead at the 12:36 mark of the first half when Holly Rich scored unassisted and that score stood into halftime. Just 6:48 into the second half, Delaware Valley got its insurance goal as Michelle Cernobyl scored off an assist from Mindy Miniconzi and DeSales was unable to get on the board in the loss. Sophomore Jen Bessinger (Langhorne, PA/Archbishop Wood) made 10 saves in between the pipes in the loss.

DeSales returns to action on Tuesday, October 14th when they host Misericordia University in another Freedom Conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
