BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA (October 14, 2008) – The DeSales University field hockey team lost a heartbreaking decision on Tuesday afternoon falling to Misericordia University, 4-3, in the second overtime of a Freedom Conference game.

The Bulldogs (6-9, 0-4 Freedom) had leads of 2-1 and 3-2 but were unable to hold either advantage until the final buzzer and the Cougars (10-4, 3-1 Freedom) broke thru at the 91:06 mark of the second overtime period as Jen Lozier tapped in a centering pass from Camilla Hansen to spoil DSU's solid effort.

After a scoreless first half, both teams exploded for three goals in the second frame with Misericordia tallying the biggest goal with just 50 seconds left to tie the game at three. MU lead 1-0 just 7:48 into the second-half, but DSU scored two straight markers over the next nine minutes to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Melissa Gilroy (Shohola, PA/Delaware Valley) started the scoring and sophomore Kelsey Strowhouer (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) gave DeSales' its first lead the 51:38 mark.

The lead stood until 61;29 when Ashlee Leonard tied the game two for the Cougars, but Strowhouer scored her second goal of the game off an assist from freshman Carla Nunez (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) with just 3:39 left on the clock staking DSU to a 3-2 lead. MU pounded the circle over the final three minutes and with 50 ticks left Jamie Wargo fired a shot past the DSU keeper to tie the score and force overtime.

The first overtime came and went with each team coming up short in the offensive zone before the Cougars scored on the first shot of the second overtime with 8:54 left to earn the road win.

Misericordia had a slight 18-17 edge in shots and had an 11-8 advantage in penalty corners. Sophomore Jen Bessinger (Langhorne, PA/Archbishop Wood) again played well in goal making 10 saves for DeSales.

The Bulldogs are back at it on Saturday when they will host FDU-Florham in another Freedom Conference beginning at 1:00 pm.
