Steiner/Smith/Petrilla lead DeSales to 5-4 Win over Eastern

Sophomore Kate Steiner was a double winner on Saturday at Eastern.

St. David's, PA (October 4, 2008) – The DeSales University women's tennis team improved to 3-1 in the Freedom Conference with a 5-4 win over Eastern University on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomores Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) and Jess Smith (Abbottstown, PA/Delone Catholic) along with freshman Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert-Hamilton East) each earned two points in the win to lead the Bulldogs.

DSU (6-3 overall) started things off with two wins at the No. 1 and 2 doubles positions. Smith and Steiner won, 8-5, while Petrilla teamed with sophomore MaryKate Boylan (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) to win, 8-5 as well.

Smith and Petrilla then earned easy singles wins at the second and fourth positions, 6-0, 6-0 for Smith and 6-1, 6-4 for Petrilla, while Steiner shook of a first set loss to win the next two sets and take the #1 singles match, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.

DSU will return to action on Tuesday, October 7^th when they host FDU-Florham in another Freedom Conference match beginning at 3:00 pm.
