Women’s Tennis Blanks FDU-Florham, 9-0; Clinches Freedom Playoff Spot

Freshman Krista Damirgian was a 6-0, 6-1 winner in singles on Tuesday.

Center Valley, PA (October 7, 2008) – The DeSales University women's tennis team clinched a spot in the Freedom Conference playoffs in the spring on Tuesday afternoon with a 9-0 shutout win over FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference match.

The Bulldogs improve to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the Freedom clinching them one of the playoff spots in the playoffs coming in the spring season. DSU swept all nine matches for the second time this season.

In the doubles matches sophomores Jess Smith (Abbottstown, PA/Delone Catholic) and Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) earned an 8-2 win at the No. 1 spot, sophomore MaryKate Boylan (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) teamed with freshman Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert-Hamilton East) to win 8-0 at the No. 2 spot and sophomore Amelia Lloyd (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) teamed with freshman Krista Damirgian (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) to win 8-6 at the No. 3 spot.

In singles play, Steiner won 6-1, 6-1 over Heather Suboleski at the No. 1 spot, Smith and Boylan each won 6-0, 6-0 at the No's. 2 and 3 spots, Petrilla took home a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 4 spot, Damirgian earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 5 spot and Lloyd was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at the No. 6 singles position.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow when they travel to Alvernia College for another Freedom Conference match beginning at 3:00 pm.
