Center Valley, PA (November 19, 2008) – The ninth ranked DeSales University women's basketball team cruised to its 18th straight home win dating back to last season with a 93-53 win over Wesley College in a non-conference game on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

The Bulldogs dominated every facet of the game in improving to 3-0 overall on the season. DSU shot 47.7 percent as compared to 35.7 for the Wolverines (0-1 overall). DeSales forced 29 WC turnovers and committed just 15 of their own and cashed in with 34 points on Wesley's 29 miscues. The Bulldogs also won the battle of the boards, 40-27, and shot lights out from the free throw line, converting 96.0 percent (24-for-25).

A close game early (7-5, DSU) was blown open with an 18-3 run over a span of six minutes that eventually sealed the Wolverines fate. During the run seven different players tallied baskets including senior Erica Sovak (Tuxedo, NY/George F. Baker) who had a team-high five points during the spurt. The lead grew to 23 by the break as DeSales led 47-24 entering the locker rooms.

The second half saw Wesley cut the lead down to 17 points over the first five minutes but a 26-2 run from the 14:50 mark to the 4:29 point of the game extended a 58-41 lead into an 84-43 margin before the final tally was posted.

Senior LeighAnn Burke (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) led the way with a game-high 22 points and added three assists and three steals, while backcourt mate and fellow senior Kim Rarick (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill) had 20 points and four steals.

Junior Kaila Wiand (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) finished with 15 points on a 3-for-5 effort from triple land, and fellow junior Caitlin Miller (Fogelsville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) had 13 points and a team-high six boards.

Sovak led the charge off the bench with five points as the Bulldog bench out-scored the Wolverine bench, 21-2, in the win. Sophomore Megan Costello (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic), junior Kelly Magrann (Sinking Spring, PA/Holy Name), and freshman Cherelle Simmons (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) each had four points off the pine.

Wesley got a double-double effort from Angie Owens with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Colleen Thomas added 13 points on 3-of-6 shooting long distance in the loss.

DeSales returns to action on Tuesday, November 25th when they take to the road for the first time, traveling cross-town to take on local rival Moravian College beginning at 6:00 pm.
