BOX SCORE (Game 2)

Center Valley, PA (March 29, 2008) – The DeSales University baseball team out-scored Manhattanville College, 25-14, in a Freedom Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon but only earned a split of the two games as the Bulldogs bats went silent in game two after exploding in game one on a windy and cold day at Butz Field.

DSU took the opener by a score more suited for a football game (21-7) as they banged out 18 hits and scored in each of its six at-bats. In the second game, the Bulldog offense seemed to continue its hot hitting scoring once in the first inning and three times in the second but went scoreless over the final five innings to fall 7-4 in the nightcap.

The first game was broken open in the fourth inning when the Bulldogs (10-9, 3-2 Freedom) in the fourth inning when DSU scored eight times to take a 16-3 lead. 10 different players recorded RBI's in the game one win including senior Scott Matejicka (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) who finished the game going 4-for-4 with five RBI's and just a home run short of the cycle. His lone double of the game gave him 12 for the season and 53 for his career as he tied Ian Hauze for the all-time lead in doubles at DeSales.

Junior Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord) was 2-for-4 with three RBI's, sophomore Andrew Feher (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI and junior Nick Repas (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two stolen bases to round out the offensive leaders.

Junior Chris Brian (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) earned the win, his third of the season, lasting 4.2 innings scattering six hits and allowing just two earned runs while striking out five. Freshman Jeffrey Pinto (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) pitched well in relief finishing the final 2.1 innings allowing just two hits and one unearned run.
