Bulldogs Return to Win Column; Treat Ties Record with Five Runs

Junior Greg Treat tied the record for most runs scored in a game with five on Wednesday.
BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA (April 16, 2008) – Junior Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord) tied the single-game record with five runs scored and played a stellar shortstop leading the DeSales University baseball back into the win column with an 18-8 win over Rutgers-Camden in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon at Butz Field.

The Bulldogs snap a three-game losing skid and move to 14-16-1 overall with the win, while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 7-21 overall on the season. DSU controlled this game from the very beginning scoring five times in the second inning and twice more in the third to open up a 7-0 lead. Camden got within four runs (8-4) in the sixth but a seven-run seventh put DSU up 15-4 before the final margin was posted.

Several players had strong offensive days for the Bulldogs including Treat who finished 4-for-5 with five runs scored. He becomes the fourth player in DeSales baseball history to score five runs in a single game joining Matt Lezinsky, Brett Vargo and Pete Remaly (twice). Sophomore Andrew Feher (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades) also had four hits going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored.

Junior Nick Repas (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) and freshman Tim Fiorito (Mesa, AZ/Seton Catholic) each had three hits and knocked in five runs, while junior Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) and freshman Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley) each had two hits.

Sophomore Mark Reilly (Cream Ridge, NJ/Notre Dame) earned the win going 5.1 innings allowing six hits and four runs, while striking out five.

DSU returns to action on Friday when they host Arcadia University in the first game of a very important three-game series this weekend at Butz Field beginning at 3:30 pm
