Bulldogs Blast Moravian, 16-4, Under the Lights at Limeport

Senior Scott Matejicka drove in six runs on Tuesday evening at Limeport Stadium.

Center Valley, PA (April 22, 2008) – Senior Scott Matejicka (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) knocked in six runs and the DeSales University baseball team totaled 16 hits en route to a decisive 16-4 win over local rival Moravian College in a non-conference game under the lights at Limeport Stadium on Tuesday evening.
 
        The Bulldogs move back to the .500 mark with the win as they are now 17-17-1 overall on the season, while Moravian falls to 16-18 overall with the loss. The Greyhounds took an early 2-0 lead with two tallies in the top of the first inning but junior Chris Brian (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) was masterful after allowing the first three Greyhounds to reach base retiring 14 of the next 15 Moravian batters and striking out seven as he earned the win going 5.1 innings allowing just four hits and three runs. Overall the DeSales pitching staff combined to strike out 13 Greyhound hitters.
 
        DSU answered the two MC runs in the top of the first with two runs of its own in the bottom of the inning and made it 5-2 in the second inning as Matejicka, junior Zac Hess (Harleysville, PA/LaSalle) and sophomore Andrew Feher (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades) each had RBI hits in the second inning.
 
        The Bulldogs continued to score as they plated a run in each of the first six innings, scoring once in the third, once in the fourth, twice in the fifth and broke the game open with seven runs in the sixth inning to take a 16-3 lead. Matejicka, Hess and junior Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) each had two-RBI hits in the fifth and sixth innings.
 
        Matejicka finished the evening going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and six RBI's, Hess totaled three hits and three RBI's and Connors had two hits, two runs scored and three RBI's. Senior Andrew Heard (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) had two hits and scored twice, Feher finished with two hits and an RBI and junior Nick Repas (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air), freshman Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley) and sophomore Doc Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) each had two runs scored in the win.

         DSU returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Ursinus College for another non-conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
